My heart hurts again as I turn on the news to find more of the same. I so often hear scriptures echoing from my heart as I see the unfolding of what was foretold from so long ago. I grieve for the children who suffer as we slip ever farther away from the light of truth.
“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!” (Isaiah 5:20)
The confusion that is evident in our culture, the violence that daily sweeps the news headlines, glorification of “freedom and rights” when in truth the opposite is what we are experiencing (56 million abortions since I was 3 years old in this nation alone)…sobering to me.
I am reminded of the true freedom Christ brings. Freedom from bondage of sin, the sin that is in our nature. He offers us a new nature, the gift of walking according to His Spirit, the Spirit of truth and righteousness, in place of the ever wandering lust of the flesh.
Men are doing just as was done so very long ago, exchanging truth for a lie, insisting on being his own god instead of submitting to Holy God, the One who in great love created us all in His own image, for HIs purpose and for His glory.
I think of the many good gifts, the plenty that stretches as far as the east is from the west, the purposes for which we were created, the unity and oneness that we are offered in Christ, this to have with our loving Heavenly Father. Yet where have we turned as a nation? I hurt for those who seek to fill the emptiness and the void inside of themselves with only those things that draw them ever farther away from the one and only thing that can ever truly and fully satisfy.
I think mostly of the confusion that is so prevalent. I see the sad countenances that are so familiar to me, a mirror image of who I once was, and tears fall. It is out of great love that I long to reach out with truth, the only truth that is unaltered by the changing of time or the crossing of seas. How can a truth so vast exist? The One who created us here created them there and we are joined as one all together under His authority.
When we hear the truth of salvation and the greatest story of love and redemption ever told and choose to walk away, surely it is from failure to believe that He is who He says He is and that His Words are indeed truth. If we believed that His ways were as He says, pure and perfect, then wouldn’t we follow?
I am inclined to believe that we are to the place where the luke warmness Jesus spoke of is the prevalent state of being, where even those who “know” lack passion enough to care. Selfish pride and hedonistic persuasions rule in most places of power and the masses are swept along by empty promises that tickle their ears.
I long for a time and place where children are safe to grow up pure and free from perversion and harm, where there is no threat to innocent hearts and minds and where love is once again defined this way…”it suffers long, is kind, envies not, vaunts not itself, is not puffed up, does not behave itself unseemly, seeks not her own, is not easily provoked, thinks no evil, rejoices in the truth, bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things, and never fails.” (1 Corinthians 13:4-8a)
The solid foundation of truth demands allegiance and love requires faithfulness to her Author.
“Enter ye in at the straight gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leads to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because straight is the gate and narrow is the way, which leads unto life, and few there be that find it.” (Matthew 7:13-14) My prayer is for those who walk in darkness to come into His marvelous light and find freedom that will never, ever fail.
