Politics and the Great Divide…

Nothing stirs me up quite like politics as I try to navigate through all the superfluous words and grandstanding for attention to find what is real and what is true; what is right and what we need as a nation. I will state very openly and forthrightly in the outset that I fear for our nation. I fear greatly at the prospect of another four years with our current president. When I watch and listen, deceit is apparent and I find myself questioning his many supporters aloud, “can’t you see the truth of his actions that stands in direct conflict with his words?”

Sadly, I hear the truth of scripture rising up in the depths of my heart:

“…because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.” (2 Thessalonians 2:10b-12) And also 2 Timothy 3:1-7 “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, high-minded, lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.” (2 Timonthy 3:1-7)

Old Testament prophesy speaks of fine, empty homes decaying in ruin; famine; pestilence and war as consequence of sins warned against in the New Testament. End time prophesy is filled with truth that is quickly coming to pass before our eyes, yet so many scoff at such “ignorant” ramblings of one like me. As I recently shared with one of my classes…I have heard and studied under the elite scholars of our day. I know their stories, their beliefs. I am not ignorant of the claims of those believed to be wise in this world. I simply believe instead to trust in The Word of God.

Opposing doctrines and worldviews exist. We must determine which one we believe, uphold, and to which we live our lives in accord. We cannot truly espouse but one as they truly are in stark contradiction. The best way I can explain my experience concerning my own world view is to say it is settled deep down on the inside, at the core of who I am. It is not subject to persuasion by a man in high office, with great political power to wield and eloquent words with which to entice. There is a Spirit of truth that lives inside of me and in the presence of an opposing spirit a disquieting occurs and calls my heart and mind to attention.

I pray every day for my family and friends. I am praying fervently for our nation. There is but one hope for us and it, too, is found in Scripture. 2 Chronicles 7:14, “If my people, which are called by My Name, shall humble themselves and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

What are wicked ways? Disobedience to God, failure to honor Him and His Word, sexual immorality, greed, hatred, lust, deceit, thinking too highly of ourselves, living unrighteously, failure to love our neighbors as ourselves…May we willingly humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God and reap the benefits of His blessings reserved for the pure of heart.
