We spend our money on things that will never satisfy. We bind ourselves in ongoing bondage to temporal things that fade and fall away. We let our lust for things divide us from others who love us. We put the unnecessary before the necessary. And…in addition to all of this, we do it when instead we could choose the free gifts of God that will never fade away. If only…if only we would taste and see that the Lord is good, that He satisfies the soul in a dry and weary land, that He alone is worthy of our praise and honor. There is a daily choice to be made by each and everyone of us. Will we choose that which is good, that which won’t decay and cannot be taken away?
My heart hurts and longs for a life of peace where no strife ever threatens or looms. Strife, I think, costs me more both physically and emotionally at this point in my life than anything I face. Because of my heart’s deepest desire to simply love God and love others and live in peace, strife and the division it brings is my enemy.
May we all take time today, as the rain falls again watering the thirsty ground, to reflect on the continual mercies of God and the blessings He offers when we come to Him and rest in the offering of His grace. He alone, never fails.
